The Mobility Network and UTTRI recently co-hosted the Cities in Motion – Transportation Data Innovation Challenge at the University of Toronto (October 14–16, 2025), the first step in a new partnership with the University of Chicago, which will host a follow-up event in spring 2026.
Students worked with real datasets from the City of Toronto, Esri Canada, and UrbanScanner, forming three teams whose final presentations impressed both faculty and City representatives. A workshop featuring a keynote from Professor Sebastian Goodfellow also brought together participants from academia, industry, and government for thoughtful discussion.
Special thanks to faculty leads Professor Eric Miller, Professor Kouros Abolfazl, and Professor Marianne Hatzopoulou, and to the City of Toronto for their strong engagement. We also gratefully acknowledge the University of Toronto’s financial contribution, which helped make this joint initiative a success.
Next stop: Chicago, 2026.
