Mobility Network was honoured to meet with a delegation from the Heinrich Boell Foundation, Washington, DC, at the University of Toronto on June 13, 2022.

The fourteen visitors comprised a diverse group of highly qualified and accomplished early to mid-career urban planners, policymakers, public transit officials, innovators and activists from Germany.

Their Mobility Network visit was one of many meetings taken by the 2022 cohort of the “Grow the Future: A Network of Green Voices” program of the Heinrich Boell Foundation during their June 11-18 “Study Tour on Smart & Sustainable Mobility” of Toronto, Pittsburgh, and Washington, DC. The tour aims to provide opportunities to share experiences and discuss shared challenges and strategies on greener and more just transportation systems.

Professor Eric Miller, Mobility Network’s Director, hosted the meeting. After an initial round of introductions, Executive Director Dr. Judy Farvolden presented an introduction to Mobility Network. An overview of delegation interests, and presentations on University of Toronto research followed. Miller gave a presentation on travel demand modelling, and Professor Marianne Hatzopoulou, Director of Positive Zero Transport Futures, gave a presentation on climate and health modelling.

The meeting closed with a lively open discussion.

All plan on keeping in touch for further transatlantic exchange on transportation data.
